27 Years at the Coal Face
I have clicked over 27 years at Worrells. That is a long time with one firm, let alone the same profession.
When I started, fax machines were still part of daily life, letters were posted as a matter of course and getting documents signed was not a same-day electronic process.
A fair bit has changed. The way we communicate has changed. Administrations move faster. Documents are signed electronically. Meetings are held online. The ATO is more active. Director risk is more front of mind. There are more restructuring options available.
But the basics of the work are still the same: understand the position, get the facts, understand the law and make practical decisions.
Sometimes the job is about restructuring, closure, recovering assets and bringing finality to a messy situation. I enjoy helping people understand where they actually stand so they can make decisions and move forward.
Being direct does not mean lacking empathy. Sometimes empathy is giving someone a clear plan, reducing uncertainty and helping them understand what is likely to happen next.
